I felt like a good teacher today. It was a wonderful feeling.
On Wednesday, I walked into the classroom and two-year-old E looked right at me with a grin. "Jessica, I love you so much!" he said. We should all receive such affirmation.
(I don't really have anything original to say about President-Elect Obama, so I'll just say: WOOOOOOOO! I'm also planning on posting about my bet din and mikvah later this weekend.)

- I am a preschool teacher at a progressive school in Portland. I graduated in 2007 from Lewis & Clark College with degrees in Hispanic Studies and Religious Studies; I spent half of 2005 at the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile. Within Religious Studies, my interests lie in the sociology of religion in America, and the ways that marginalized groups develop theologies of liberation and create spaces for themselves within dominant religious discourse. I have a profound interest in Jewish Studies, particularly the Jewish Renewal and Havurah movements, neo-Hasidism, and Jewish feminism. Other interests include bike-riding, contemporary literary fiction, unexplained phenomenon and marine cryptozoology, pop culture nostalgia, feminism, social justice, and issues surrounding migrant farmworkers. This blog will occasionally touch on all of these issues, with a preponderance of posts about feminism, religion, the Baby-Sitters Club, and my daily life. I have been dangerously theological and remarkably smooth since 2004. On November 2, 2008, the first day of the week of Lekh Lekha, surrounded by family, loved ones, and spiritual menotrs, I officially converted to Judaism.
